Karyn Raftery has had a career in music for over 22 years as a Lead Singer, a Session Singer, a Vocal Teacher and an Entertainment Consultant. As a singing teacher, Karyn, has been in demand since 2010 gaining an instant reputation and recognition for the unique combination of talent and skills she brings to her singing lessons.
Karyn sought out and learned from many teachers in her early years, including popular pop / rock singer Rita Scott, and later, craving more technical knowledge, renowned opera singer, Irene Waugh. Most recently, believing there is always more to learn, Karyn has been honing her skills with the incredible Rachelle Schmidt.
Since the age of 17yrs, Karyn has been in constant demand, and has consistently performed in some of Newcastle’s hardest working and popular bands, duos and trios.
Karyn is best known to many as her alter-ego, “Georgie”, from the award winning band The Curvetttes, playing to record breaking numbers in venues all over NSW. The Curvettes worked with some of Australia’s top artists of the time, including Jimmy Barnes, Renee Geyer, Johnny Diesel, Ian Moss, The Tap Dogs, John Paul Young and Rick Price. They won Most Popular Band, and Most Outstanding Concept / Showband at The Newcastle Rock Awards, and played to full houses 4 nights a week for 4 years.
Karyn has extensive knowledge of the popular music industry from many perspectives, not only as a performer, but also through her role as an Entertainment Consultant and Booking Agent for 8 yrs. In these roles Karyn booked entertainment for venues and corporate clients, ranging from local soloists to the cream of the Australian Music Industry, and was responsible for contracting the work of up to 30 local artists every week.
Currently Karyn performs weekly in the popular long running duo, Iguana, and the 6 piece All-Star band, The Rumour.
Since 2010, Karyn has been a singing teacher coaching others in the joy of singing and voice…and loving every minute of it.
