VOCAL MENTOR & STUDIO DIRECTOR
Rachelle has been teaching voice and performance in Newcastle and the greater Hunter area since 2001. Through her years of teaching she has witnessed a growing demand for skilled, experienced and dedicated voice teachers who understand the individual requirements of each voice and every student. The Voice Studio, with its unique structure and solely focused on voice, was created to meet this demand.
Rachelle’s initial music training was as a classical pianist and cellist. This later led to classical voice lessons where she quickly emerged as a lyric coloratura soprano. In 2005 she studied in Munich, Germany, by invitation, with eminent vocal coach Rita Loving of the Bayerisches Staatsoper.
In 2024 Rachelle made her professional musical theatre debut at the age of 50 in the Australian tour of Menopause the Musical with SK Entertainment. Redefining what it means to be an emerging artist, she hopes to represent mature artists, especially women, who have dedicated their lives to their families and local communities but now strive towards professional recognition in the artistic field. She also hopes to set an example for younger performers that there is no linear path in a creative career.
Vocally and dramatically diverse, Rachelle is best known in Newcastle for her work in theatre. She has performed in over 40 production and some of her favourite musical theatre roles include Joanne in Company, Donna in Mamma Mia, Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, Morticia in The Addams Family, The Chaperone in The Drowsy Chaperone, Cathy in The Last Five Years. She has performed various dramatic roles in plays including Valerie in The Weir, Grenelle in Between Two Waves and Irina in Ghosts.
She is a five-time CONDA winner receiving recognition for her work as The Witch in Into The Woods (2012), Elaine in Breathing Corpses (2012), Miss Andrew in Mary Poppins (2015), Helene in Ghosts (2022) and Capulet in Romeo and Juliet: A Reimagining (2024).
In addition to her work on the stage and as Studio Director/Vocal Mentor at The Voice Studio, Rachelle has been a very active in the theatre community in Newcastle. She was the Artistic Director of the Annual CONDA Awards Ceremony (2014-2018) and President of CONDA Inc. (2018-2020). She proudly spearheaded change and awareness around diversity and acceptance in theatre including implementing changes to the CONDA acting awards to non-binary categories.
