VOCAL MENTOR
Karyn Raftery has been working full-time in the music industry for over 28 years, as a professional singer, entertainment consultant, session singer, teacher and vocal coach. She has a Cert IV in Training and Assessment, and teaches Music Industry at TAFE NSW.

Karyn is best known to many as her alter ego “Georgie” from popular 90’s band; The Curvettes. The Curvettes played to record-breaking numbers across the state, won a number of awards at The Newcastle Rock Awards, and played to full houses 4 nights per week for 4 years.

Some of Karyn’s career highlights, include venue residencies in Sydney and Newcastle, touring the east coast of NSW and QLD, performing at the official launch of the movie Strictly Ballroom with John Paul Young and Gia Carrides, playing to 5000 people at the Winter Sleep Out on the steps of the Opera House after Cold Chisel, performing by invitation at the re-opening of The Civic Theatre in 1993, and her involvement in creating the “Spread The Love” video with TVS and OOTS in 2017.

Karyn has extensive knowledge of the popular music industry, not only as a performer, but as an Entertainment Consultant and Booking agent for 8 years, where she booked entertainment programmes for venues and corporate clients, ranging from local solo artists to the cream of the Australian Music Industry and Speakers Industry.

In 2014 Karyn was delighted to be named by Newcastle Live as one of the Newcastle Music Industry’s most Inspirational Women for International Women’s Day.

In addition to her vocal coaching at TVS, Karyn teaches at TAFE, performs every week in local acts, including The Rumour with another of the TVS teachers, Marty, and runs around after her own two (beautiful) kids!
